Boats sail on the rivers,
And ships sail on the seas;
But clouds that sail across the sky
Are prettier than these.
There are bridges on the rivers,
As pretty as you please;
But the bow that bridges heaven,
And overtops the trees,
And builds a road from earth to sky,
Is prettier far than these.

এবং জাহাজ সমুদ্রের উপর ভেসে যায়;
তোমার মত সুন্দর;

The Rainbow | Lesson 3 | Summary

In the poem ‘The Rainbow’, the poet Christina Georgina Rossetti depicts the beauty of a rainbow. The poet narrates that the boats that sail on the rivers and the ships that sail on the seas are pretty. But above them, the clouds that sail across the sky are the prettiest. There are many beautiful bridges people build over the rivers, which present magnificent views. But the bridge that catches the eye of the poet is ‘the bow that bridges heaven’. This bridge appears over the treetops and builds a road from the earth to the sky, i.e, the beautiful ‘rainbow’. The poet compared manmade beauty with the beauty of nature.
