Different Parameters that can assess Water Quality as a Consumption.
There are different parameters that we check to see if water is safe to drink. We test water samples for things like Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Most Probable Number (MPN), and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS).
1. Dissolved Oxygen (DO): This tells us how much oxygen (O2) is in the water. More oxygen means the water is good. If there’s less oxygen, it could mean there’s the presence of organic waste pollutants in the water.

2. Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD): BOD measures how much oxygen bacteria use to break down organic matter in water, like sewage, dead plant leaves, grass blades and food wastes. More waste means more bacteria and less oxygen in the water.
3. Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD): COD tells us how much oxygen is needed to break down chemicals in water. If water gets pollution from factories, the COD will be high.

4. Most Probable Number (MPN): This test helps us find out how many harmful bacteria are in the water, like E.coli and coliforms. The MPN test counts how many of these organisms are present in the water. Coliforms are in our intestines and are usually not harmful. If there’s a lot of human waste in the water, MPN will be high.
5. Total Dissolved Solids (TDS): TDS measures how many salts and other solids are dissolved in water. Some substances dissolved in water can make it poor quality, like calcium, phosphorus, iron sulphates, carbonates, nitrates, chlorides, and other salts. Heavy metals are also in this group. Too much of these substances can make water quality worse.
