In this article, we will Explain the following term Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
What is Central Pollution Control Board?
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) started in 1974 because of laws about preventing pollution in water and air. Its main jobs are:
i) To promote the cleanliness of streams and wells by preventing, controlling and reducing water pollution.
ii) To improve the quality of air better and prevent, and control air pollution in the country.
The CPCB helps the government with advice on how to stop pollution in air, water, and noise. It also gives technical help to the Ministry to follow the Environmental (Protection) Act of 1986. This law sets rules for how much pollution industries can make. The CPCB has made rules for different industries like coal mines and textile factories.

The CPCB has found seventeen types of industries that pollute a lot. These include things like cement, thermal power plants, distilleries, sugar, fertilizer, integrated iron and steel, oil refineries, pulp and paper, petrochemicals, pesticides, tanneries, basic drugs and pharmaceuticals, dye and dye intermediates, caustic soda, zinc smelter, copper smelter and aluminium smelter. They also found some areas in the country where pollution is really bad. They made plans to fix the pollution in these places.
The CPCB and State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) work together to check if water and air are clean. They have stations all over the country to check water and air quality. They watch over 90 cities to see if the air is clean enough to breathe.
