Constitutional and Environmental Traits.

In this article, we will Discuss Constitutional and Environmental Traits.

Define Constitutional and Environmental Traits.

Constitutional traits are those traits that are determined by nature or biology whereas Environmental traits are those which are determined by nurture that is by experience gained in interaction with the environment.

For Cattell, most surface traits reflect a mixture of both heredity (nature) and environment (nurture). However, he further points out that some source traits derive solely from within the individual and some source traits derive solely from sources derived only from environmental factors. He was able to assess the degree to which various traits are determined either by environmental or genetically determined factors, through a complicated statistical technique called MAVA (Multiple Abstract Variance Analysis). MAVA is based upon the comparisons between people of the same family either reared together or reared apart or between members of different families reared either together or apart.
